Street Level Network interviews the advertising and brands guru Mike Tunnicliffe

Street Level Network met with advertising, marketing and brands guru Mike Tunnicliffe. We managed to speak with him after he had chaired a panel at the exclusive Musexpo Conference in London. Part 1 of the interview is now available on Street Level Network (www.streetlevelnetwork.com). The Guru Mike Tunnicliffe has spent 25 years running advertising agencies before moving into the music and entertainment industry. This became realised after doing a behind the scenes business, of the business of Hollywood in Los Angeles, for Unilever. “I was given 12 of the top Unilever marketers and we went around the studios meeting with Yahoo, Warner Bros and we basically were looking at how the whole content, digital distribution technology was effecting things.” ” We were looking at what the opportunities were for brands to get involved in content and how this could be monetized”. Mike has been involved in advertising for over 25 years and when he decided to leave the sector he “was able to take those skills, contacts and connections and seek opportunity using this whole developing brand partnerships space that others had tried but not succeeded with, to see if he could make a proper business out of it” Why the broad range of interests? Mike talks about advertising and how to establish and create your brand and to then monetize it from day one. Using his knowledge of advertising and his contacts, Mike has been able to transcend into the music and entertainment industry as a real force to be working with. He has the ability to take on almost any brand and then attach commercial partnerships that are carefully thought out between brand and the entertainment property. Advice for people trying to break into the industry “Artists going to brands with their hands out stretched for sponsorship are fishing in the wrong pond” as that is a small pond. Artists need to have a very clear definition of what they believe they stand for, It has to be taken many steps further by understanding what are the artist values, what is the relationship with the fans. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Street Level is the home of emerging talent in the music, media & entertainment industries.
